What other surprises are waiting for us this spring? The Old Farmer's Almanac just released its spring update this week which means our first look at the forecast for Western Colorado in April and May.

A Warmer Western Slope in 2025
The Old Farmer’s Almanac indicates we will notice warmer temperatures in April and May, which will likely impact precipitation and snow melt during the spring season. Warmer temperatures could mean rain showers instead of snow showers which also melts snow faster.
Too much snow melt means the rivers could swell up in the spring, and it also means we could see very low water levels on the Grand Mesa by September.
Our Signature Late Frost?
While temperatures in April may be four to five degrees warmer, May could still bring some cold overnights that see frost in Western Colorado just when you thought it was safe to start gardening.
Grab our station app and keep it on your phone. If we see a Frost Advisory issued, we can send an alert right to your phone from our weather center. It is free to stay updated.

More Rain Means More Wildflowers
Spring in Colorado could be a bit on the rainy side. We expect above-average spring rain and the chance for late-season snow at our ski resorts and in the mountains. While we love the rain, we do not love the mudslides or spring flooding we get during a warmer spring.
Spring can also be the windiest time of year on the Western Slope when gusts bring dust to the valley and impact I-70 and US-50 travelers. The upside is a rainy spring means an incredible wildflower blume at the end of June before the heat sets in. It should be a great season for photos.
