Officer-Involved Shooting in Grand Junction Over the Weekend
Going into the weekend everyone on the Western Slope was hoping to enjoy the nice weather and just relax especially after last weekend losing little Addie Rae in a canal. Well unfortunately for our law enforcement officers it wasn't so uneventful as there was an officer-involved shooting that took place after noon on Sunday, October 11th.
The details of the shooting were released by the Mesa County Sheriff's Office and the whole document can be seen and read here.
It was approximately 12:36 p.m. on Sunday, October 11th that the initial 911 call came in regarding a stolen vehicle. Within just a matter of minutes, Grand Junction Police Officers were able to locate the suspected vehicle near 29 1/2 road and Parkway Drive.
When officers first attempted to contact the driver of the stolen vehicle, the driver struck an officer, and immediately an officer-involved shooting began.
The suspect was shot and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer that was struck by the vehicle was treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.
As you can expect there was a heavy law enforcement presence in the area for hours after the incident took place. This investigation will remain open for the next few days, with more information to be released soon.
If you know anything about this case or the current investigation underway you're being asked to call the witness tip line at (970) 2444-3526.
As always we want to thank our law enforcement officers for keeping our community safe even in dangerous situations such as this.
