Now’s the Time to Get Ready for the 22nd Annual Rose Hill Rally
The 22nd annual Rose Hill Rally is coming up Sunday, May 6. Now is the time to start getting ready. These are my top five reasons why you should start making preparations sooner as opposed to later.
The event features both a 50K and 100K bike ride taking you all over Grand Junction and Fruita. While this may sound like a pleasant little Sunday ride through the country, the reality is you should start getting in shape ahead of time.
This event is open to cyclists of all ages and skill level. There is no race or timed event associated with the rally. Put simply, you get together with other fun loving people, and enjoy a great ride, all while supporting the Rose Hill Hospitality House at St. Mary's Hospital.
So, why should you begin training now? There are several reasons. These are the top five:
- 50K equals 31 miles. 100K equals 62 miles. If you've been, shall we say, dormant over the winter, you might want to get in a few long rides prior to the event.
- Your bike may be in need of a little TLC. The non-cycling months may have left your bike in need of some lube, a little extra tire pressure, and maybe an adjustment or two.
- A refresher course might be in order to get yourself back up to speed on the rules of the road.
- It might be wise to get a few rides in with your cycling buddies. When the rally rolls around, you might want to organize a group.
- The weather in Western Colorado is great and very cycling friendly. Don't wait until May 6 to get in a ride.
Don't be like me. I don't even know where my bike is, let alone what condition it's in. Regarding my condition... I couldn't even get my socks on this morning, let alone ride 100K on a mountain bike.
Are you ready to ride? Get registered now. Costs are:
- Adults: $45
- Children 5 to 12: $25
- Under 5: FREE
- Family package (2 adults and 3+ children): $150
T-shirts are available with registration until April 27.
I've ridden in this event for at least the last ten years. In my opinion, this is the most well-organized events on the planet. In the unfortunate event you suffer a flat or another mechanical failure during the rally, minor bike maintenance is provided along the route. Support vehicles also survey the rally's course, and refreshments are available along the way.
What if you're not an avid cyclist, but would still like to participate? Walkers can set out anytime between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. and enjoy either the 5K or 10K. Like the bicycle portion of the event, this is not a race. Joggers are welcome, too.
Start your training now. Don't get halfway through the ride and cramp up. If your bike needs a little love, now is the time to find out. Fire up the bike, get in a few good rides, and make plans to attend the 22nd annual Rose Hill Rally.
