According to a new development from KKCO, the City Council of Grand Junction just took another step closer to building a $62 million events center downtown.

The venue, at the meeting back in September, would sit at 130,000 square feet with a capacity around 6,600. The hope is to draw bigger name concerts and a variety of sporting events to the area, including a hockey team.

Although the idea of a new venue does sound very exciting, there is always a list of pros and cons to discuss. Cost, parking, location to name just a few.

Cost - $62 million is a lot of lettuce. Are Grand Junction taxpayers footing the bill?

Parking - Where to put an additional 3-4,000 vehicles on an event night. If the parking is free, I don't think it would be so terrible.

Location - Are there other, more accessible areas in Grand Junction that would be a better fit for something like this or is downtown the best spot?

Not 100% if this the area they are thinking about, but these are pictures of that empty lot across from a hotel that is next to the Convention Center.

Instead of driving 4-6 hours to see your favorite performers, how nice would it be to drive 10 minutes?

Grand Junction is in a pretty enviable spot when it comes to touring and routing for musical acts and other types of entertainers. From Denver to Salt Lake City to Vegas, the problem is that this city doesn't have a venue big enough to attract some of these acts and performers. Stocker stadium is here, but have not heard of any plans to host concerts there.

So, here's the $62 million question. Are you in favor of this new project?
