The new convenience store at 29 and D Road in Grand Junction is officially open for business.

You've probably seen the construction for some time at the intersection of 29 Road and D Road, right across from the Maverik station. While driving home late last night, I couldn't help but notice the lights were on, cars were in the parking lot, and the doors were open for business.

Welcome to Grand Junction, Golden Gate. Perhaps it would be more accurate to say "Congratulations on opening another Grand Valley location." The new store on 29 Road is not their first location in the valley. Gold Gate already operates a store at 780 37 3/10 Road in Palisade.

You'll also notice the "NOW HIRING" sign displayed on the side of the building. Do you know somebody looking for a gig? Spread the word.

I went on something of a wild goose chase today while tracking down the history of this company. There are Golden Gate convenience stores, and there is also Golden Gate Petroleum. According to their official website, the latter "was founded in 1946 and 70 Years later continues to be one of the largest family-owned fuel distributor and manufacturer in the Western United States."

For those traveling the 29 Road corridor, it seems you now have a number of options when it comes to fuel and goodies. Two convenience stores now operate kitty-corner from each other at the intersection. As of last night, February 5, their fuel prices were comparable, with Golden Gate coming in two cents cheaper on unleaded.

Congratulations, Golden Gate. Here's wishing you a long and successful run in Grand Junction. Welcome to the neighborhood.
