A popular Genesee Park hiking trail has been closed temporarily after a mountain lion fight left one animal dead and one injured.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife report that someone found a dying mountain lion in the Beaver Brook Trail system on Chavez Trail. CPW later updated that the animal had died from the fight.

CPW spokesman Jason Clay told FOX31:

“It was determined that there was a fight between two lions, one [was] mortally wounded and ended up dying. When the officer was conducting a field necropsy, other hikers reported to them a sighting of another mountain lion.”

CPW wildlife officers and park rangers are keeping their eyes peeled for the other mountain lion. However, as of 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday they had not had any reports of the animal.
