All signs lead to one or more possible mountain lions attacking several livestock and even a dog in Fruita.

Recent attacks in the area of 18 1/2 and 19 1/2 Roads in North Fruita have residents concerned for their safety and the well-being of their livestock. So far, several sheep and goats have been the target of these many incidents.

Although no one has actually seen the cat or one of these cats, attacks have been heard and bite marks lead the residents to believe that it is a mountain lion.

The CPW has been investigating these cases. They were able to determine that one of the sheep was actually killed by a coyote, not a lion.

The CPW strongly advises against seeking these predators out. Whether it is trying to film them or to destroy them, they ask that you refrain from those activities.

If you do spot a mountain lion please contact the CPW immediately. The Grand Junction office is (970) 255-6100 or the James M. Robb Fruita State Park Office at (970) 858-9188.
