We always thought the holiday season was at least partly about spending time with the family, but a recent survey indicates pet lovers would rather be with their pets than with their in-laws at Christmas time.

According to PR Newswire, 96% of people in a recent survey indicated they would rather spend the holiday with their favorite pet than with their in-laws. That seems rather shocking, but I can see the advantages. If you spend that time with your pets you most likely won't get bogged down in heated discussions about religion and politics. Plus, your pets aren't watching to see how many pieces of pie you eat.

On another note, only 6% will not buy their pet a Christmas present. Pet owners should get something for their pet to open on Christmas day, even if it's just a chewy bone. There are some people who go all out for their pets, with 2% in the survey saying they will spend at least $100 on their pet.

About 85% say their pet has been "nice" this year, while 15% admit their four-legged companion is on Santa's naughty list. We have a dog on the naughty list, and one on the "nice" list, however, both will have presents under the tree.

And here's one I just don't get. An alarming 85% of pet owners kiss their pet under the mistletoe. Are you kidding me? That is a very dangerous situation. With most dogs, you go anywhere near their face and  they take it as a cue to stick their tongue out. I have to say, the last thing I want to do is french kiss with my dog.
