Colorado Mesa University should be proud and be able to display its proper name.

The campus parking garage still retains the old Mesa State University designation.

Someone has to know the story behind this. Why was it never changed?

June 6, 2011, Governor John Hickenlooper signed the bill that made the institution's name change possible. Then, in August of 2011, it became official. Mesa State College was no more. It was to be known, from that moment on, as Colorado Mesa University. In fact, there have been many name changes throughout its history. From Grand Junction Junior College, Grand Junction State Junior College, Mesa College then Mesa Sate College in 1988, to where it is now. Even the former Sanders Field House was renamed as the Maverick Center.

The school has many things to be proud of, including most recently, awarding its first doctorate degree in December of 2015. Not bad considering it opened as the Grand Junction Junior College in 1925 that enrolled a whopping 39 students.

So, this institution should be proud and be able to display its proper name.

How do you feel about this? Is it embarrassing or just not worth it?
