Congratulations to Sgt. Cathy Abercrombie-Tate!

Last week, the Grand Junction Lion's Club unveiled it's 2016 Hometown Hero Award.

But, it wasn't her job duties that were being recognized. Although, her work at the Mesa County jail is reason enough for an award. The Lion's Club focused on what Cathy does in her free time. All year around she collects items that she uses in 'goodie' bags. Then, during the holidays she passes them out to people that may be less fortunate or especially, residents in local nursing homes.

It was all quite a surprise to Cathy who thought she was there simply to make a quick presentation.

Even Sheriff Matt Lewis was in on it. He stated the he and the department are blessed to have someone like her on their staff.
