Maren Morris has landed one of the most coveted performance gigs in the music world. The rising country star has been announced as the musical guest for Saturday Night Live on Dec. 10.

Now in its 42nd season, SNL has served as a launching pad and showcase for many acts that have gone on to become some of the biggest stars across all genres of music. Morris' appearance will mark the first time a country artist has performed during the show's 2016-2017 season.

The singer-songwriter shot to instant success with the release of her debut single, "My Church," and her debut album, Hero, is one of the most critically-acclaimed of the year. She led the nominations at the 2016 CMA Awards, where she ended up taking home New Artist of the Year honors just minutes after a showstopping performance of "My Church" that was one of the highlights of the program.

“This is so crazy. So, last year I sat across the street at a bar and watched this show,” she said in a tearful acceptance speech. “I never thought as a songwriter I’d be standing here today. Thank you so much for voting for me.”

Morris' second single is "80s Mercedes," and she is slated to kick off her first headlining tour in February of 2017. The Hero Tour will include Ryan Hurd and Devin Dawson as support acts, and is set to run through early April.
