A 26-year-old Golden man is dead after falling off of Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park on Thursday (July 30).

According to CBS4, the man was free soloing the Broadway Ledge of the fourteener when he slipped and fell over 600 feet.

Authorities found his body at the base of Fields Chimney, and transported him to the Boulder County Coroner.

While this man's passing marks the first Longs Peak death of 2020, CBS4 reports that around two people die climbing the mountain every year.

The National Park Service has various warnings about the landmark on its website, stating that "an unroped fall would likely be fatal" on the mountain.
