Luke Skywalker Speaks, General Leia Returns in ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’ Footage Description
While we wait for the first teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which should be arriving in the next couple of months (more on that in a minute), some footage was recently screened for Disney shareholders. That footage won’t be released online, but one reporter in attendance was kind enough to share a few interesting details — it’s not much, but it should keep your spirits up until the first trailer debuts.
On Wednesday, Los Angeles Times reporter Daniel Miller was present as Disney shareholders watched select footage from The Last Jedi, Rian Johnson’s forthcoming Star Wars sequel. Here’s how Miller describes the footage, which included a few familiar faces:
It’s already been confirmed that The Last Jedi picks up right where The Force Awakens left off, with Daisy Ridley’s Rey meeting Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker and handing over his iconic lightsaber. The footage screened for shareholders appears to begin with a sneak peek at the continuation of that scene, with Luke speaking his first lines. Miller’s tweets are understandably light on specifics given Lucasfilm and Disney’s tight reigns on the franchise.
As for when we’ll see the first teaser trailer…Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed a premiere, but Star Wars Celebration — which takes place in mid-April — seems like the most likely venue. It’s also quite possible that we could see another new preview attached to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which hits theaters on May 5, just one day removed from Star Wars Day.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi also stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro, and hits theaters on December 15.
