Everything We Know About Luke Combs’ Second Album
After promising his fans that he had big news on the way, Luke Combs delivered on Thursday (Aug. 8). The singer is gearing up to release his highly-anticipated sophomore album, which will be the follow-up to 2017's This One's for You.
For Combs, This One's for You was a powerhouse breakout project that kept on giving, spawning a deluxe version (This One's for You Too) and a whopping five chart-topping singles. Earlier in 2019, he continued that streak by releasing an EP called The Prequel. That project's first single, "Beer Never Broke My Heart," shot up the charts to become Combs' sixth career No. 1.
The Prequel made music history in another respect, too, making Combs the first artist to simultaneously place five songs in the Hot Country songs chart's Top 25 since Johnny Cash did so in 1959.
Of course, an EP named The Prequel implied that the singer has another project planned for not too far in the future. Then, new music started emerging -- In recent weeks, Combs has been sharing unreleased clips of new music with fans via social media -- making it seem inevitable that a full-length album was indeed in the works. Now that it's official, read on to learn everything we know about Combs' forthcoming sophomore project.
Combs has not yet shared the title of his forthcoming album. Stay tuned!
The Release Date
On Aug. 8, the singer shared on social media that his next project will be released on Nov. 8. A day before officially revealing the date, Combs sneakily included the numbers "11" and "8" in the opening to a clip of behind-the-scenes footage from "Beer Never Broke My Heart"'s music video.
According to the singer, the only person who put the clues together was a fan account. "I hid the album's release date in this video and the only person who noticed it was @LukeCombsUpdate...She's good!" he wrote.
The Record Label
The new project will be released via River House Artists/Columbia Nashville. Combs has worked with both labels previously, on his full-length debut, This One's for You, as well as his 2019 EP, The Prequel.
There is no word yet on who produced Combs' next record. In the past, he has worked with Scott Moffatt, Sammy Mitchell and Steven Battey.
The Album Cover
We don't yet know what the cover art for Combs' new project will be. The Boot will update this section when more information becomes available.
Combs hasn't yet announced an official single for the new project, though not for lack of options. He has recently been sharing clips of a selection of brand-new, unreleased songs on social media. Additionally, the country star notched his sixth No. 1 hit with "Beer Never Broke My Heart," the first single off of his current EP, The Prequel. While there is no word yet on whether his newest hit will also make an appearance on the upcoming album, it's not uncommon for songs on EPs to make their way onto full-length projects.
In the weeks leading up to the official album announcement, Combs began sharing new material on his social media account, including the reflective "Reasons," a '90s throwback called "1, 2 Many" and a ballad, "Better Together." Combs has not said whether these tracks will be included on his new project, nor has be revealed an official track list.
Combs has not yet announced a trek specifically in support of his new project. There's no shortage of opportunities to see him live, however: The singer recently extended his 2019 Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour, which will span through December and conclude with two nights at Nashville's Bridgestone Arena.
