Are you ready to enjoy live music again? After a two-month hiatus, live music is set to return to Western Colorado. There's a show coming up tomorrow night you might enjoy.

This Wednesday, May 20, the Brothers John Band will perform live jazz at Sammy's Rocky Mountain Steakhouse in Rifle, Colorado. Are you all set? Imagine how great it will be to hear the sounds of local players back in action.

Who exactly are the Brothers John Band? Personally, I'm not familiar with them. I certainly know one of the band's members, John Brown. You've seen John performing on bass and guitar all over the valley. When not performing, he teaches at the VFW in Grand Junction.

When John Brown performs with John Riger, along with other backing musicians, they are called the Brothers John Band. They specialize in original jazz swing, Latin, and modern musical styles.

Music gets underway Wednesday night at six. The guys will be playing a three-hour show.

Thank you for your interest and support." - John Brown

Obviously, with this show, like any others on the horizon, social distancing guidelines will have to be observed. Reservations are required, and masks will have to be worn.

So, what about other shows with local musical groups? Keeping in mind most bands book months in advance, many local musicians are waiting to hear if upcoming shows will still happen. Bands booked at bars and lodges are in a holding pattern waiting to hear if the future gigs are canceled or are still on the burner.

Grand Junction entertainer extraordinaire Huey recently posted an amusing, and yet heartbreaking, image on Facebook.

You'll notice the poster says "Appearing Someday." Huey is in the same boat as the rest of us. All he can do is wait to hear when it's time to go back to work.

Well, it appears the ball has started rolling. We recently announced rescheduled dates for postponed shows at Las Colonias. Those concerts are back on the books and will be coming your way soon. Slowly, but surely, local players will be back to work with local performances.

I hope you'll have the chance to check out Wednesday's show at Sammy's Rocky Mountain Steakhouse in Rifle. Given the social distancing restrictions, this could quite literally be an intimate gig.
