Have you ever experienced "Kitten Yoga"? There are a couple of sessions coming up in February at Grand Junction's Roice-Hurst Humane Society.

Does this mean little teeny kittens get together in a class, roll out their little mats, and engage in therapeutic yoga? No. In this case, Kitten Yoga means you participating in the Yoga class, with the added bonus of kitten therapy.

You are invited to join the humane society for Gentle Flow Yoga with certified instructor Matt Angleman. What precisely is Gentle Flow Yoga? According to InspiredByStephanieRose.com:

Gentle Flow Yoga is a slow-paced practice that features calming poses and an emphasis on stretching and breathing without intensity or rigorous movement.

What, then, is the benefit of Kitten Yoga? According to Hillspet.com, "Animal shelters across the U.S. now host cat yoga nights as a way to help people strengthen their cores, find inner peace, and perhaps a new forever furry friend."

Why am I mentioning this in late January? It is possible, even likely, the February classes will fill up quick. A class is offered tomorrow (Friday, January 31) but it is already full. The next classes are:

  • Friday, February 21 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, February 28 from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.

If you wish to participate, you'll need the following:

  • At least 15 years of age
  • Clean Yoga mat
  • Long pants
  • Shirt with sleeves
  • Donation of $10

Classes are limited to nine participants (not including the kittens). You can register by contacting Ashley at ashley@rhhumanesociety.org.

Give this class a try. If you're not already a Yoga enthusiast, you might just find your new passion. If you're not a parent to a kitten, you might just find your new best friend. HIllspet.com adds, "Whether you're a cat parent already or thinking about adopting one, practicing yoga with your cat promotes a healthy mind and body, and strengthens the bond between you."
