In late March, Justin Timberlake got country music fans talking when he shared on Instagram a photo of himself hanging out with Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman. At Wednesday night's (June 8) 2016 CMT Music Awards, producer Pharrell Williams shared the full story of that collaboration -- and how fans can hear (at least part of) the results.

Prior to the awards show, on the red (er, pink) carpet, Williams told ET that Timberlake contributed background vocals for "C'mon," a song from LBT's upcoming new album, Wanderlust, which Williams produced.

“We were in the same studio at the same time. So we had Justin in one room. Little Big Town in another room," Williams recalls. "Quite naturally, people are going to visit each other and Justin ended up singing on one of the songs.”

Adds Fairchild, "It was like the old days when artists used to hang out in the studio and you might hop in and listen to somebody’s song. He came down and listened to what we were doing. He was like, ‘Oh my gosh, what if I sang this?'

"It was very fun, and he’s a Tennessee boy," she continues. "Obviously [Timberlake and Williams] have a deep friendship for many years, so it was really cool.”

"I am really, really excited with what I'm coming up with because I think it sounds like something I haven't quite done and hasn't quite been done," Timberlake said of his new music recently. Per an early November Facebook post from Ronnie Dunn, Timberlake has bought land and is building a house in the Nashville area, and his producer, Timbaland, says that the artist would be open to creating country tunes, but Timberlake himself has not commented further.

Little Big Town's Wanderlust album is due out on June 10.
