America's Most Wanted for -- jaywalking? At first, it reminded me of that scene in Lethal Weapon 3. But, according to a report on KKCO it's a little more serious that that.

With the nice weather in addition to CMU and local high school students back for the Fall semester, there has been a dramatic increase in foot traffic on the Grand Junction streets. And the police are taking a good, hard look at that.

Along with the Colorado Department of Transportation, the GJPD is looking at ways to bring awareness to Jaywalking. Laugh at first, but statewide last year there 1,400 pedestrian crashes with 65 being fatal. That's too many.

But, why do people continue to Jaywalk? CMU student John Milavo says that sometimes he gets lazy and crosses wherever. Another student states it's just easier and faster at times. That same student admits to almost being hit by a car- more than once! Hope they learn.

Grand Junction Police have only written one ticket for Jaywalking so far this year, but that's no reason to cross where you are not supposed to, even if it gets you to your destination a little quicker.

Look both ways, stay inside the crosswalk, pay attention and we'll be a lot safer.
