Jack’s Homeless Odyssey Over. A Colorado Story.
I have been homeless for over three years and this week I finally got my own apartment.
The reasons for homelessness vary from one person to the next, but it's not always someone who doesn't want to work or just prefers to stay homeless and off the grid. Not every homeless person panhandles or would even be easy to spot.
My homeless odyssey began because of a lost job. Unable to secure employment at the wage I was making, I had to let go of the last apartment I had, and that started me living from place to place, person to person, hoping Jazz and I would be able to stay long enough to get my feet under me and some money together.
But with the loss of a vehicle and no way to get around, I had a hard time finding a job, another car or anything that would get me to where I needed to go, except a bike.
And that got stolen.
So, here, finally, with my Townsquare Media family cheering me on I was able to put it all together and this week I signed a year lease on my own apartment.
I will continue to support homeless shelters, thankful I never had to stay in one because many didn't or don't have the friends and family I have to keep me off the streets.
And, remember, you can't always tell a homeless person by looking at them.
