Hunter S. Thompson's legend also has strong Colorado ties as he famously lived in Woody Creek on what he called Owl Farm, frequented the nearby Woody Creek Tavern, and even ran for mayor of Aspen on the "Freak Power" ticket with a campaign that, surprisingly, almost won.

Thompson's connection with Aspen continues to this day, and most recently, a musical based on the Gonzo Journalist's life will be previewed in the ski town prior to its next upcoming run on the east coast.
