Sure, you can see some spectacular fall colors merely driving down I-70, most notably along the stretch between Idaho Springs and Eagle County, but the best experience in seeing the yellow, orange, and red leaves in the autumn is undoubtedly found off the beaten path.

Colorado is home to a number of mountain passes and while beautiful, some of these roads are not for inexperienced drivers and many of them require a 4x4 vehicle of some sort.
However, one of the best mountain passes to travel over to catch the fall colors can be accessed by nearly any type of vehicle and you don't have to travel far from the interstate.
Colorado's Guanella Pass is One of the Best for Fall Colors
Just outside of the small, historic town of Georgetown, Colorado, is a mountain road known as Guanella Pass.
First established in 1953, Guanella Pass was named for a longtime Clear Creek County road supervisor and commissioner by the name of Byron Guanella and was created to connect Georgetown with the small mountain town of Grant, Colorado.
