For close to a century, the Grand Junction Union Depot was a hub for countless trains passing through the city. Originally built in 1906, the Union Depot eventually fell victim to accumulative neglect which saw the historic building close in the 1990s.

However, many Western Colorado residents have been diligently working to breathe life back into the Union Depot including numerous upgrades and renovations, and now, there certainly appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Historic Grand Junction Union Depot to Be Revitalized

The group known as the Friends of GJ Union Depot has been hard at work raising money and applying for grants with the intention of bringing the historic building back to life.

Grand Junction residents will be pleased to know that because of these efforts, the Union Depot is on its way to being reopened with running water, sewer, electricity, and a complete facelift.

In addition, a local artist by the name of Ashley Peterson announced in a Facebook post that she received a phone call from the City of Grand Junction letting her know that she had been chosen to paint one of eight of the Union Depot's windows, a project that is set to begin on May 11, 2024.

For decades, the Union Depot was responsible for bringing a significant amount of revenue to the city of Grand Junction and it's the hope of many in the community that this could once again be a possibility for the city.
