Colorado Redbox Movies & Video Game Rental Machines Going Away

Seems like now that long ago, a Friday or Saturday night could regularly consist of ordering some takeout food or making dinner at home, and renting a movie to watch with your family or a date.

Now, not only are the days of popping into a Blockbuster or traditional video store a thing of the past, but the cheaper/easier versions of movie rentals that replaced the big store are also now going away.

Goodbye Redbox Movie Rentals In Colorado

In a move that truly marks the end of the physical movie renting era across Colorado, Redbox has announced the closure of all its kiosks in the state and beyond. The decision comes not only due to the growing dominance of digital streaming services but also because their owner is bankrupt.

On Wednesday, July 10th, Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment changed its Chapter 11 Bankruptcy process, with nearly $! billion in debt, to a Chapter 7 liquidation proceeding. That means it will be liquidating all of its assets, including the more than 24,000 movie and video game rental kiosks not just in Colorado, but nationwide.

The process is also costing more than one thousand employees their jobs, effective immediately.

Where Can I Rent Movies Now In Colorado?

While there are a very small handful of local mom-and-pop movie shops around Colorado, with Redbox going away, renting movies will now be done nearly 100% digitally, which is a shame because nothing beats a Blockbuster night.

Maybe this will be the start of the rumored revival of the iconic Blockbuster brand. Maybe we're finally learning that you truly don't know what you've got 'til it's gone...
