Extremely Popular Fast Food Chain In Colorado Now Charging 25-Cent Bag Fees?
It's certainly starting to feel like we've taken way too many things for granted as time has gone on. The latest? Free bags, as we're now getting charged a 25-cent bag fee with your fast food orders at certain locations..
Is Your Favorite Colorado Fast Food Restaurant Charging You 25 Cents For Bags?
In a world where you already feel like you're being nickel and dimed to death, the extra add-on fees just keep on coming.
Colorado wasn't the first state to do it, but charging for bags at grocery stores used to be something we'd only have to deal with when we were visiting family and friends in California.
Beginning on January 1st of this year, the PPRA (Plastic Pollution Reduction Act) prohibited single-use plastic bags for most businesses.
Some still have bags available but you pay a 10-cent fee per bag, in hopes of encouraging customers to bring in reusable bags and eliminate the excess waste of one-time products.
60% of the fee goes to the local government, and 40% stays with the store to cover the costs of making the bags.
If people hated the store bag fees, just wait, because it might be getting even worse.
Some McDonald's In Colorado Now Charging A 25-Cent Bag Fee
I'll be honest, I don't read my receipts when we dine at the local McDonald's with the kiddo, but maybe I should.
A friend of ours posted a pic of her receipt after a visit to a local McDonald's in Louisville, Colorado, earlier in the day.
The reason for the irritated post was that she had noticed she was charged a 25-cent bag fee.
Bag fees in Colorado aren't new, but this was more than double the price of other bag fees.
Her response for the fee was, "Next time, I'll ask them to hand me each item one by one. You can keep your bag."
Obviously, she was caught by surprise, as the McDonald's locations near where we live don't charge the bag fee, so it kind of came with no warning.
I also went to the McDonald's here in Windsor to take advantage of its $1 10-piece Chicken McNuggets to see if they had the fee, and they also do not, as of now.
The McDonald's bag fee appears to be situational by location and is not standard across all restaurants just yet, but Louisville's McDonald's is all aboard the 25-cent bag fee.
We understand that legally, Colorado has bag fees for many retailers, but as mentioned earlier, why is this fee more than double the standard 10-cent fee? 25 cents for a small bag seems excessive.
We'll certainly be watching our receipts a little closer as we hit Mickey D's in the future for some tasty nuggets and fries.
And in case McDonald's reads this and gets upset, we love you, seriously huge fans since we were young. Lifers! However, your fans don't love these extra fees. First sauces, now bags? With your price increases in the last few years, these things should have been rolled into those.
