Of all the cities/towns across Colorado, having Loveland picked to be home of the latest time capsule for the state is quite the honor. 50 years from now, those still around can say, "I remember when they buried that thing.. I put [x] inside."

When Will They Be Burying the 2026 Time Capsule in Colorado?

According to VisitLoveland.com, sometime in the fall of 2026 they'll be placing the new time capsule, the biggest one ever for the state, somewhere at The Ranch Events Complex. It's hard to say if they'll have a big ceremony, as they may want to keep the exact location a secret.

What Will Go In the Latest Time Capsule for Colorado?

From the organizers:

We’re looking for items that reflect everyday life in Colorado today. Suggested submissions include letters, photographs, artwork, creative writing, postcards, and small keepsakes. For preservation, acid-free paper is recommended.

The goal is to create one shared historical snapshot made up of thousands of personal stories, memories, and artifacts representing life across Colorado in 2026.

What You Can/Cannot Submit for the 2026 Time Capsule:

  • Maximum size: 12” x 12” x 12”
  • No food or organic materials
  • No liquids, batteries, or items that may leak
  • No flammable, hazardous, or pressurized materials
  • No oversized or heavy materials items
  • No illegal or prohibited materials

For us in Northern Colorado, we can submit items for the Colorado Capsule in person during the Larimer County Fair (July 31-August 4.) There's also the opportunity to share memories, stories, photographs, and letters to the future online.

All items must be clearly labeled, securely packaged, and include a return address. They will be approving or rejecting submitted items (with no guarantee that you'll get rejected items back,) so choose wisely.

For questions about eligibility or specific items, contact: charles.lamers@cityofloveland.org

I don't think I'm alone when I get excited about time capsules, whether burying them or unburying them. Maybe it's because I'm a sci-fi fan: the capsules kind of travel through time, when we open them we are also time travelers. I wonder how many capsules have been buried, and someone was still around when the capsules were unburied?

MORE COLORADO - Colorado's Snobbiest Cities

Colorado loves to act chill, until you see the price tags and attitudes in some of these towns. This list calls out the places where “laid-back” quietly turns into “we’re better than you.” We asked A.I. to give us what it thinks the snobbiest towns are. Don't @ us, this is the robots speaking.
