Historic Airport Control Tower in Colorado Opens for Tours with Beer at the Top

From 1929 until 1995 Stapleton International Airport was the airport of note for the Centennial State. Once DIA became operational, it was "out with the old, in with the new."

Stapleton Airport has cleared away, all except for the air traffic control tower and its building. Now, we all have the opportunity to see the "view from the top," if we have the capability.

Stapleton Airport was iconic back in its heyday. Maybe that's why they left the air traffic control tower building to stay when Denver International Airport replaced the aging Stapleton.

In recent years, the tower building has been renovated into a couple of different bars/eateries. Punch Bowl Social had a location there for a few years; today, it's home to the FlyteCo Tower Brewery.

For a mere $10, the public can go up to the top of the old Stapleton Air Traffic Control Tower. This is a first for the tower and long awaited. There have been many, many people wondering if we'd ever get to go up there.

THREE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE STAPLETON TOWER TOUR IN COLORADO

• It's for people aged 10 and older.
• You have to be able to physically climb the 11 stories of stairs, as there is no operational elevator to the top.
• The tours are only on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
