It takes a definite different way of thinking to want to trade places with a Colorado prisoner, while you yourself are a Federal prisoner. How does Joe Exotic think his life in Colorado will be different if such an idea were to come to fruition?

What is Joe Exotic's Plan Dealing With a Colorado Prisoner?

Joseph Maldonado, "Joe Exotic," has suggested a plan: He and Colorado prisoner Tina Peters swapping places. Putting Tina Peters in a Federal prison, and he coming to be a Colorado prisoner.

How Much Does Joe Exotic Still Have Left on His Sentence?

Joseph Maldonado was sentenced in 2020 to serve 21 years in Federal prison for the murder-for-hire plot he orchestrated in the attempted to kill Carole Baskin, among other charges. The story was made famous with the Netflix documentary, "Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness."

How Much Time Does Tina Peters Have Left to Serve in Colorado?

Tina Peters was sentenced in 2024 to serve nine years in prison in Colorado after being charged with voter tampering. She's being held in Pueblo a La Vista Correctional Facility. Although Peters is a supporter of President Trump, he cannot pardon her, as she was sentenced on non-Federal charges. That's where Joe Exotic's idea comes in.

According to the Grand Junction Sentinel, Joseph Maldonado wrote to Governor Polis about a swap, where the Governor could give Maldonado clemency, and then President Trump could do the same for Peters once in Federal custody.

He wrote that people would consider Polis a "hero" if he went through with the plan, and he (Maldonado) would be in better prison conditions.

Will Governor Polis Give Tina Peters Clemency, Either Way?

While Governor Polis himself has been thinking about giving Peters clemency, without the help of Joe Exotic, it was reported by the Denver Post that he's holding off on any decision until after her appeals have been concluded.
