My daughters have always loved slime... but I've always refused to buy it for them, at least since the great "Slimegate" incident of 2024. It's almost become a joke when they see it out and about at stores, because they know I'm going to say no, so they ask for it in funny ways. We laugh and laugh, then we leave the store without it.

So imagine their excitement when I told them we would be making some slime at home, after I came across a recipe for a homemade brew that was supposed to be fun to make, fun to play with AND didn't make a mess around the house!

I was skeptical of course, but turns out, this slime recipe is totally as advertised. In fact, it's SO good that my 6-year old told me a half dozen times to talk about it on the air today and is the one forcing me to share this review and recipe with you.

Here's how you make the ultimate homemade slime:

Mix about a half teaspoon of baking soda with a tablespoon and a half of contact lens solution.

Add a drop or two of food coloring to make it whatever color you want.

Then add about 4-6 ounces of clear Elmer's glue, the non-toxic kind kids take to school.

Stir it up with a spoon and when it starts to set up, you can grab it with your hands and knead it until you have a huge ball of slime.

It'll be messy to make at first, especially if you use food coloring, but once it sets up, it's the perfect blend of stretchy and sticky without actually sticking to anything at all. And it stays perfectly stretchy and playable forever! If it gets dirty... rinse it off! And it'll be stretchy and cool to play with again!

You can also add a little shaving cream to make it less translucent and create some cooler colors.

Store it in a Ziploc bag and watch gravity do its thing, as it recombines and settles itself into a solid mass over and over and over again.

Time will tell how long it holds up, but ours has been going strong for days and I haven't found a single drop embedded in any furniture or bedding in the house, which is FAR more than I could ever say about the garbage you buy at the store.

Homemade slime for the win!
