While more than a few movies have been filmed in Colorado, The Godfather is not on that list. A visit to Windsor, however, can give you the feeling of being at Connie's wedding in the classic Francis Ford Coppola masterpiece.

Windsor's Boardwalk Park Wasn't Always 'Boardwalk Park'

Windsor's Boardwalk Park dates back to the 1960s when it was known as Lakeside Park. It's a great 12-acre ADA-Accessible park that holds many events throughout the year, for young and old. It has shelters and a stage/amphitheatre where they put on the Windsor Summer Concert Series each year. In 2015 the park went under some renovations, which included additions that might remind you, as they do me, of "The Godfather."

The trilogy, "The Godfather," is shown a lot during the holiday season; many people make plans to be in front of the TV, taking it all in for nine-hour piece of cinematic gold. There is a great docuseries about the making of the first "The Godfather" called "The Offer;" I highly recommend it. It's 1974's "The Godfather II,' however, that can remind you of Windsor's Boardwalk Park.

Windsor's Boardwalk Park Look Like An Orchestra Bandstand

In "The Godfather II" Michael Corleone has moved his family to Lake Tahoe, on an estate along the shoreline; the actual estate is known as Fleur De Lac, Within the movie, they throw a big "first communion" party for his son, Anthony. At the party, there's a bandstand orchestra entertaining the guests. Parts of Boardwalk Park in Windsor resemble that bandstand.

On the south-western edge of Boardwalk Park there is a "vendor/market" area; the shade structure for that area definitely gives off the "Corleone Bandstand" vibe, in my opinion.
