I Let My 9 Year Old Plan The Entire Day…Never Again
Today, my daughter Murphy turns 9. The last of the single digits, and I would be lying if I said it didn't make me sad. It really does go by too fast.
That being said, about 9 months ago, Murphy asked me, in passing, if we could have a yes day for her 9th birthday while I was folding laundry and not really paying attention. Of course, she remembered. It's funny she can't remember where the shoes she was just wearing five minutes ago went, but on this promise, she was locked in.
Here's what my "Yes Day" in Northern Colorado looked like.
Starbucks in Timnath
We started the mid-morning strong with a six-dollar pink drink from Starbucks. She drank seventy-five cents' worth of the drink. She also got a birthday cake pop because I wasn't allowed to say no all day. If only I could slap Sadie from eight months ago.
Lil' Monsters in Wellington
I'm not really sure why she chose this place, as it seems to be for smaller kids. Yes, they have a giant ball pit with slides and big netting to climb, but I'm pretty sure we aged out of this place a while ago. But there is no logic on Yes Day.
Fly High in Fort Collins
I know what you're thinking. Sadie, you are such an idiot. You big dumb idiot, why would you agree to a day when the word "no" isn't allowed? And is this even a real thing, or am I being scammed? But what can I do? If I go back on my promise from 8 months, 5 days, 13 hours, and 52 minutes ago, she may need therapy. Or even worse, she may date a rapper from our town.
Texas Roadhouse in Fort Collins
I actually really like this place. No notes.
And that's how I got conned on my child's 9th birthday.
