Car insurance rates for teenagers is quite expensive, or so I have heard. One Colorado teenager has learned a tough lesson and I am sure his parents are going to pay dearly for it when it comes time to renew their auto insurance policy.

According to Boulder Police, an 18-year-old was caught going over 40 miles per hour over the speed limit in a new Mercedes Benz. The teenager was clocked at 102 miles per hour in a 60-mile-per-hour zone on U.S. Highway 36 at Table Mesa Drive in Boulder, Colorado.

Boulder is notorious for besting speeders going even a few miles over the speed limit, so I would imagine that going 40 miles per hour over the speed limit is going to hurt financially. The Boulder Police Department posted about the incident on X, saying that there is no excuse for such speed. It's dangerous for everyone.

The teenage driver also did not have insurance either. The Boulder Police officer cited the driver for reckless driving and a mandatory court date to tell a Boulder County judge about his driving. The photo of the citation shows that there is a surcharge of 12 driving points that can be deducted.

Colorado issues driving points on a driver's license. Minor drivers in Colorado can have their license suspended with just nine points deducted from their license within 12 months. 12 or more points within 24 months, and 14 or more points at any age between 18 and 21. Considering the number of points this teen driver could lose, there is a high probability that the teenager could lose his license for the careless act.
