A decadent dessert that originated in the Middle East several years ago has finally made its way to the Colorado food scene.

Dubai chocolate became a viral sensation in 2024 thanks to TikTok. However, the sweet treat was first created by Dubai's Fix Dessert Chocolatier in 2021 and cleverly marketed as the “Can’t Get Knafeh of It."

That's because the melt-in-your-mouth chocolate bars are filled with toasted kataifi (a shredded phyllo dough), tahini paste, and pistachio cream. The kataifi gives the bar a bit of subtle crunchiness, and pairs nicely with the milk chocolate and nutty, creaminess of the pistachio paste. The bright green coloring also comes from the pistachios.

The chocolate bar is sometimes referred to as a “knafeh” or “kunafa” chocolate bar due to its similarity to knafeh, which is another Middle Eastern dessert that's made with kataifi.

With all the internet fame, Fix Dessert Chocolatier went from receiving six to seven orders a day to over 500 daily orders.

Over the past few months, the popular Middle Eastern dessert has made its way to the states. There are even quite a few places in Colorado where consumers can pick up some of this delicious chocolate.

Reem's Bakery is notably the first place in Colorado to offer authentic Dubai chocolate bars. The Denver bakery stuffs its decadent chocolate bars with pistachio, phyllo dough, and creamy pistachio butter. Reem's Dubai chocolate kunafa bars sell for $35 each and can be purchased online or in store. The bakery is located at 2418 South Colorado Boulevard.

Heaven Creamery

Heaven Creamery is known for their extravagant and bizarre flavors, so it's no surprise that they quickly caught onto the premium pistachio/chocolate craze. This Colorado ice cream shop has their own, unique version of the viral treat - a Dubai Chocolate ice cream. When in rotation, the tasty flavor is available at all three of their locations.

Mi Ranchito Neveria

This Aurora market also took a different take on the luxurious dessert, by offering Dubai chocolate strawberry cups. These cups are stuffed with chocolate and pistachio sauce, piled high with fresh strawberries, and topped with crispy kataifi for that amazing extra crunch. Mi Ranchito Neveria has traditional Dubai chocolate bars on the shelves too.
