Brooke Shields Calls Out Casa Bonita Management in New Video

A massive pop cultural tourist attraction in Denver is currently in the spotlight again.

In a video on the Casa Bonita United Instagram, actress Brooke Shields called out the management of the Denver restaurant.

Shields is the President of Actors' Equity Association, which is the union that actually represents the performers at Casa Bonita. 51,000 actors and stage managers are a part of this unionization.

Actors' Equity has been in bargaining to get the Casa Bonita actors their very first union contract for "quite a while now," according to Shields.

In the official Casa Bonita United bargaining petition, this back and forth has gone on for at least six months.

"...we have continued to make compromises in the name of moving forward towards our first collective bargaining agreement."

What Casa Bonita Performers Are Demanding: Fair Pay and Safety

Shields alleges that the restaurant management has been "playing really fast and loose with this bargaining process."

Performers are asking for two key things in this agreement: fair pay and safety.

Casa Bonita Actors Claim They’re Not Paid a Living Wage

The actress and union president claims that the actors are not making a living wage and are actually making less than their co-workers who serve the food.

According to their petition, the performers only make $21 an hour while the living wage in Denver is around $30. It's also made clear in the document that they are not asking for monetary tips like their serving counterparts.

Safety Concerns for Casa Bonita Cliff Divers

They also cited some safety concerns at Casa Bonita.

"We have asked for incredibly reasonable safety measures, given the scope of entertainment operations at Casa Bonita."

The cliff jumpers put on over 30 dive shows every single day and they claim that there are no emergency plans in place in case any of them go wrong.

"Because without the performers who bring Casa Bonita to life, it's just a big pink restaurant," Shields said.

A Look Back: Casa Bonita’s Bankruptcy and $40 Million Makeover

Four years ago, Casa Bonita filed for bankruptcy before the show creators stepped in to buy it for a reported $3.1 million, according to a report from AOL. Additionally, they had to spend an additional $40 million on renovations.

It seems like neither Casa Bonita management nor the 'South Park' creators have made a public response to Shields at this time.
