Tragedy struck in Loveland this weekend when a hiker died while on the trail with a group of other travelers on Sunday (December 27).

According to the Reporter-Herald, rescue crews responded to a call at 4:40 p.m. regarding a man in distress, who was hiking on the Blue Sky Trail. The man was reportedly the oldest of a group of three.

Unfortunately, the man passed away during an apparent heart attack at the scene. Loveland Fire Rescue Authority carried the man down from the trail to where the Larimer County Coroner’s vehicle and investigator were waiting.

The hiker's official cause of death will be released by the coroner at a later date.
