Well, maybe not aliens. But, they are hoping for a beautiful night for some stargazing.

The Annual Star Party at Highline State Park is being held tonight (Saturday). All attendees should meet up in the parking lot at 7:30.

The 'party' is put together by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife people and the Western Colorado Astronomy Club. It is a wonderful chance for you and your family to learn from stargazing experts. Subjects will include the moon, the stars, constellations, myth, lore and all things in the universe. A powerful telescope will be on hand as well.

Here are the things you need to know for tonight's star watch:

  • All attendees should bring chairs, blanket, snacks and water, insect repellent and a light jacket.
  • There is no admission to the Star Party. But, each vehicle must have valid park pass (or you can pay entrance fee on arrival.)
  • Highline State Park is about 10 miles northwest of Fruita. Take the Loma exit off of I-70. Take a right on Highway 139 to Q Road. You should see signs that will lead you right to the park.
  • Call (970) 858-7208 with any questions.
