Have you ever taken the enjoyable hike to Grand Junction's Lucy Ferril Ela Wildlife Sanctuary? I've lived in Grand Junction for 44 years, and have walked the Audubon trail a couple times a week since the day they built it, and have never noticed it before. Let me assure you, It's well worth visiting.

In my case, I reached the Lucy Ferril Ela Wildlife Sanctuary by walking in via the Audubon Trail. I parked at the Albertson's shopping plaza, and made the hike in. The other alternative would be to drive in, but in that instance, you will either need a parks pass in order to park, or you'll have to pay the "one time visit" parking fee. Trust me, the rangers do ticket cars which do not have the parking permit. Please don't ask my how I know this.

Another good reason to visit involves the admission charge. The price is certainly right.... Free. You might agree, free is pretty hard to beat.

Parts of the trail do require a little bit of technical effort on your behalf. The trail is well marked, but there are a few ups and downs and the occasional bridge.

One thing you may not see a bunch of in this wildlife area is, well, wildlife. As a matter of fact, I encountered a singular life form on my visit, specifically, a duck. One duck. Please look closely.

There is little doubt in my mind that far more wildlife exists in the area than what I witnessed. In any event, the walk is very enjoyable, and well worth taking the time.

Where dog walkers are concerned, the sign at the entry almost implies that those who maintain the sanctuary would prefer it if you left your dog at home. However, the sign continues by stating that dogs should be kept on a short leash, and must be picked up after.
