Have You Visited Grand Junction’s Western Slope Honor Flight Memorial?
Where in Western Colorado can one go to pay respects to those who served during World War II? There are several memorials in the valley, but listed below are two you might now have visited before.
The Western Slope Honor Flight memorial, shown above, was built using funds left over following the five flights sending World War II veterans to the memorial in Washington DC. You can visit the Western Slope Honor Flight memorial at the Veteran's Memorial Cemetery at 2830 Riverside Parkway in Grand Junction.
Colorado Mesa University constructed a Veteran's Memorial in the quad just South of the Student Center on the main campus. Whereas the memorial was originally dedicated to Vietnam vets, the University expanded the memorial to include all vets from all branches.
If you haven't visited these two memorials, make plans to do so as soon as possible. They are excellent additions to the valley and convey the community's appreciation to those who were there to serve this day back in 1941.
