Greeley Police officers arrested 30-year-old Charles Aguilar on Aug. 24 who already had severe pending charges against him. Aguilar is now facing new charges for the incident that led to the police being called.

On August 21, 2021, around 5:19 in the morning, Greeley Police received a disturbance with weapons call. The woman who made the call said her boyfriend, Aguilar, was hitting her friend with a shovel.

Prior to the call, Aguilar had pending charges of 2nd Degree Assault and Domestic Violence. The caller on Aug. 21 was the victim of the previous incident that resulted in those charges.

According to a release from the Greeley Police Department, Aguilar was allegedly hitting 38-year-old Jermaine Bell with a shovel when it broke in half. Reportedly, Aguilar was also threatening to kill Bell during the assault.

Before officers arrived, Aguilar reportedly fled the scene and Bell was taken to a hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover from his injuries. The woman who made the call was uninjured during the altercation.

After Aguilar ran, Greeley Police obtained an arrest warrant for Aguilar. On Aug. 24, the Weld County Sheriff's Office Strike Team and Patrol Unit assisted the Greeley Police Department after information came in on Aguilar's whereabouts.

The information given to authorities was that Aguilar was in the Hill-N-Park neighborhood of Weld County in a house.

The Strike Team set up surveillance around the location and confirmed that Aguilar was indeed there. Deputies reportedly spent four hours over the phone negotiating with Aguilar. Eventually, Aguilar was convinced to surrender peacefully.

Aguilar was evaluated at a local hospital, and when he was released, was booked on charges for the incident on Aug. 21 and the previous incident and arrest with pending charges. He is facing:

  • Attempted Second Degree Murder (Class 3 Felony)
  • Assault in the Second Degree (Class 4 Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief (Class 2 Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Mischief (Class 2 Misdemeanor)
  • Domestic Violence Enhancer

This is all the information the Greeley Police Department is providing at this time.
