Grand Junction’s Favorite Local Bands
I posted a Facebook question last week asking what your favorite local bands, past or present, are. Here are the results.
The clear winner on the Facebook post was Western Colorado's Union of None. A band that rose from the ashes of Bicycle Annie, you very well may have seen Union of None play their fun mix of covers spanning over three decades at local festivals, bars, and other events.
You may have wondered to yourself, what happened to that band Augmented? Well, they're now known as Shükala. Rocking the umlaut popularized by bands such as Motörhead and Mötley Crüe, Shükala considers themselves a "heavy, monstrous rock band from Colorado," and plan to release new music in the next year.
Heavy metal band Sworn Us Under made the list at number three, and with over 1,000 Facebook fans, deservedly so. Not only that, but Kevin went so far as to say that they "should be opening for the metal giants."
Honorable Mention: Rezin8
Here's a band that fits into the "past" category. I was pleasantly surprised to see Rezin8 make the list, as they actually shared a bill with a band I was in back in the early 2000s.
Honorable Mention: The Wrong Impressions
While Grand Junction has a gigantic hard rock and metal scene, there is also a presence of fun, happier music, and the power duo The Wrong Impressions fit nicely into that category.
Honorable Mention: Jack + Jill
Another outfit that made the list, and sits comfortably on Facebook with over 3,000 fans is husband and wife duo Jack + Jill. While the name suggests another two-person band, the couple are joined by drums and bass to create a nice, full sound in their live performances.
Honorable Mention: Zolopht
Grand Junction's Zolopht is a seven-member band that, simply put, is just a lot of fun. They can be seen wearing wacky colors to accompany their unique brand of psychedelic funk-rock.
