Grand Junction Police Investigate Fire Death
Just after midnight this morning Grand Junction received a report of a fire alarm going off at the Eagle Ridge Assisted Living Center at 2425 Teller Ave. As fire fighters were arriving, a nurse at the facility found a small fire in one of the rooms and extinguished it. Police say she then realized that a person had been burned in the fire.
There were no evacuations due to the fire, as the nurse was able to quickly put it out, however police say the victim died at the scene..
Because of the death, the Grand Junction Police Department is handling the investigation. According to a release from Grand Junction police ,nothing suspicious was found, and they are not anticipating filing any criminal charges. Authorities are awaiting a report from the Mesa County Coroner’s Office, which will release the cause and manner of the death, as well as the person’s identity.
