I tawt I taw a puddy tat!

I did. I did. I taw a puddy tat!

On North Avenue in Grand Junction on Sunday, of all places.

This reminds me of when I was young, maybe 4 or 5, the family went to a Fair type of event. I remember the food, carnival rides, midway games and a handful of mascots that were walking around. Well, being the type of child I was, curiosity got the best of me and I followed one of the mascots behind a tent, where I saw the most horrific spectacle I had ever seen.

There, in front of me, were those same mascots, but all their heads had been cut off! Horror!

Yes, I witnessed the unmasking of the mascots. Saw them on their smoke break. That image has never left me. The enormity of that shock shook me to the core.

That scene did repeat itself many, many years later when I was an adult working an event at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI. There were local mascots there taking pictures, etc. Accidentally, I stumbled into a roped off area where I was witness again to the mascot smoke break.

The shock factor was still the same. I don't want to see the person in the costume. It changes you.
