It's taken three months to get there, but free, widespread testing is available in Colorado.

According to Denver,  free COVID testing is now available at the Pepsi Center. People who don't have symptoms of the coronavirus but feel they may have been exposed can get checked at a free, drive-up testing site.

The free testing is available to anyone in Colorado, not just residents of Denver. Anyone wanting to be tested has to register online, or call 311, and then be ready to be tested within 24 hours.

This is great news for anyone who has potentially been exposed to COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms of the virus. You can't help but wonder how many people have contracted the virus in recent weeks but didn't know it because testing was not readily available.  It's possible many people have opted not to get tested because they simply did not fully understand the process.

The Pepsi Center testing site is doing nasal swabs, but these are not the extreme tests you may have seen where a long swab is inserted deep into the nasal cavity to the point that it is extremely uncomfortable. This test requires the swab to be inserted into each nostril only until the cotton swab disappears, and does not appear to be uncomfortable at all.

You can watch the video to see exactly what to expect if you go to be tested and an explanation of the process. Hopefully, this form of testing will soon be available statewide.
