A teacher was injured after being assaulted by a student at Preston Middle School one Thursday morning, according to a Coloradoan report.

At 9:26 a.m. the Poudre Fire Authority received a call for a medical emergency for minor injuries sustained in an assault.

In an email sent to parents, Principal Amy Schmer said that a student began arguing with the teacher, eventually physically assaulting the teacher using "objects found in the classroom."

The Coloradoan is reporting that the school was put on a "hold" status when the incident occurred. That means school activities continue as normal but students and staff must stay in their classrooms.

Fort Collins Police said the investigation is ongoing.
