According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention this year's flu shot is doing a surprisingly bad job of protecting the elderly!

The AP has reported that,

The vaccine is proving to be only nine percent effective in those 65 and older against the strong strain of the flu that's predominant this season. A flu vaccine is considered pretty good for seniors if it's in the 30 to 40 percent range. Health officials don't know why the vaccine is performing so poorly among seniors, but is still recommending that everyone over six months old get a flu shot, since some protection is better than none, and even if someone who's vaccinated gets the flu, they may not get as sick. Overall, across all age groups, the vaccine's effectiveness was found to be 56 percent, which is considered moderate.
