Two people were killed on C-470 on Thursday (Aug 29) when a semi lost control and crossed into the westbound lanes before going down an embankment.

The truck was carrying sand and broke through the median, striking another vehicle and bursting into flames. The car that was hit remained under the cab of the truck as both ended up at the bottom of the embankment.

Three additional vehicles were struck by debris as the crash occurred but no injuries were reported from it.

Heavy smoke and fire could be seen all around and the trailer from the semi was hanging over the edge of the roadway.

The crash occurred just after 2 P.M. yesterday and closed both lanes of traffic going into rush hour. Both lanes of traffic were reopened just after 7 P.M.

Crews will be out Friday to continue to clean up and make repairs to make sure the road is safe to travel.
