First Friday to celebrate art installation “Shelter Pets” by local artist Cathey Pabst in benefit of Roice-Hurst Humane Society on April 1, 2016 at 5:30pm at City Hall

Grand Junction, CO – Join the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture, the Roice-Hurst Humane Society, and local artist Cathey Pabst on Friday, April 1 from 5:30-7:00pm to see the beautiful and moving installation by Pabst in benefit of the animals of Roice-Hurst.

Pabst’s unique collage pieces represent shelter animals that need a little extra love and a forever home. Their “kennel cards” tell the stories of animals that end up in shelters for an array of heart-wrenching reasons and that are waiting at a shelter for an adopter. Each piece will be up for “adoption” through the RHHS website, and each art adoption will subsidize the cost of an adoption through our shelter for senior citizens and veterans in our valley. The installation will be on display at City Hall through June 2016 and “adopters” will be able to pick up their pieces at the end of that month.

“We are honored that Cathey decided to create this special installation for Roice-Hurst to bring attention to the plight of homeless animals and help raise money to subsidize some of their adoptions,” Anna Stout, RHHS Executive Director, said. The exhibit aims to raise $1,400 through the art adoptions.

Artist Cathey Pabst is a member of the National Collage Society and was juried into their 2008 and 2011 national shows. She is also a member of the Rocky Mountain Collage Society, taking third place in their 2008 show and honorable mention in the 2011 show. Her image, “Boy in a White Shirt” was chosen for the National Collage Society’s 2012 Calendar. Also in 2012, her piece, “How Do You Get to Wonderland?”, was purchased by the Grand Junction Commission on the Arts and Culture as the annual business award for the City’s Champion of the Arts Award. She has also had work published in both the Grand Valley Magazine and the Palette Magazine. “I enjoy the process of collage – the breaking down of the images into basic forms and then rebuilding them in a different way.” “The Dogs of City Hall,” a fundraiser for Roice-Hurst Human Society, is now on display at Grand Junction City Hall through June, 2016.

The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is an 11-member advisory board whose mission is to help create and nurture a climate and conditions in Grand Junction in which arts and culture can thrive and grow.

The Roice-Hurst Humane Society is a local non-profit animal shelter and adoption center that works to promote the bonds between pets and their people through animal sheltering and adoptions, pet behavior counseling, educational activities, and resources for the community that aim to keep pets in their homes.
