CMU Music Faculty and Guests to perform masterworks for large chamber ensemble

On Saturday, November 21st at 7:30pm in the Moss Performing Arts Center Love Recital Hall, an exciting new collaboration will take place between CMU Music Faculty and Guests performing masterpieces for large chamber ensemble.

The concert repertoire will consist of: Arnold Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony op. 9 (1907), John Adams’ Son of Chamber Symphony (2007), and Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in its original version for 13 players (1944). The three works are among the most sophisticated representatives of their kind, the Schoenberg having both been what the composer himself called his “truest musical composition to date” and the inspiration for the Adams, and the Copland having solidified further the image of American music.

Players include Jane Kuenzel, flute; Jun Watabe, clarinet; Diana Musselman, horn; Eileen Watabe, bassoon; Darin Kamstra, percussion; Katie Mientka, piano. The ensemble is conducted by Alejandro Gómez Guillén. The ensemble will also include Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra musicians Tom Hess, Angie Swanson, and Judd Berry, as well as feature the Altius Quartet and several Kansas City, Bloomington and Front Range professional musicians.

Tickets for the concert are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for students and are available by calling the box office at 970.248.1604
