Elk Brings Down Helicopter in Utah
Helicopter = 0. Elk = 0. Flight crew = 0. Nobody walked away a winner following Monday's crash in Utah. Fortunately, the two-member crew suffered only a few scratches and bruises when they crashed while attempting to capture an elk in Wasatch County.
According to WMMO 98.9, the crash occurred near the Currant Creek Reservoir, roughly 85 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
What went wrong? The crew was trying to net the elk, with hopes of sedating it. The plan was to place a tracking collar on it for later study.
What would this operation look like if everything went according to plan? Check out this video from Earl Watters.
Unfortunately, where Monday's crash was concerned, the elk jumped and hit the helicopter's tail rotor. As you can imagine, the elk was killed.
