District 51 Gets Free Food For Students
Mesa County School District 51 recently received over $30,000 worth of pulled pork, pork and beans, and potatoes From The U.S. Department of Agriculture.
This comes from the department's efforts to purchase produce and meat from American farmers to try and overcome trade wars with other countries.
Since the program began in 2018, $991 million dollars worth of food has been purchased and sent to needy states and areas. For District 51, it involved 20,000 pounds of potatoes, 1,230 pounds of kidney beans and 10,000 pounds of pulled pork for no cost.
All the district needed to do was process the food. Having this much food donated to the district gives those who need it a chance to have lunch every day.
Much of the food is going to areas of highest need, such as Los Angeles that is receiving twice as much as usual.
The government stepped up its efforts to try and mitigate the circumstances that have arisen as part of the President's efforts in regards to foreign trade.
If it means our kids eat, we are all for it.
