Denver Colorado Ranked as One of the Best Cities for Electric Vehicles

While some aren't embracing the electric vehicle trend, Denver is on board.

According to new research from StorageCafe, the Mile High City is the 13th-best metro area for electric vehicles, trailing just behind cities like Baltimore, Phoenix, and Stockton.

The website reports that the city makes an effort to cater to electric vehicle owners, noting that Denver has 0.5 public electric vehicle charging stations for every 1,000 households and charging stations for over 7% of renters.

Fueling an electric vehicle is also fairly affordable in Denver, as the city's average price per gallon is $1.

Denverites have picked up on these perks, too — StorageCafe discovered that Denver residents registered a whopping 27,256 electric vehicles in 2021, a 50% increase from 2020.

Experts say the electric vehicle love isn't likely to go anywhere either.

"Electric cars are fun to drive, take less maintenance (assuming you have a place to plug in easily), and in places with low electricity prices, are cheaper to operate," Sarah Kurts, Ph.D., a professor at the University of California, Merced, told StorageCafe. "I think we can expect that they will be increasingly popular as long as we keep electricity prices low."

Unsurprisingly, Colorado's neighbor Wyoming isn't on StorageCafe's list.

Earlier this year, two politicians drafted a bill to ban electric vehicle sales in the state; however, the bill died in committee in February.
